Immigration Corner | What are the ways to emigrate to Canada?

BOOK A TELEPHONE MEETING    Dear Miss Powell, I keep hearing that there is a shortage of labour in Canada, but it looks like they have scrapped the Federal Skilled Worker Programme as I haven’t heard of anyone being selected lately. I am waiting to see if they will start selecting people again before I apply, as I don’t want to waste my time and money. Are they still selecting people from outside of Canada? What other options are there to move to Canada? Should I be exploring other opportunities in other countries? What do you think? – AH Dear AH Canada has been recognised as one of the best countries for immigrants and I have written articles highlighting some of the benefits of living in Canada. Furthermore, Canada has one of the most generous immigration systems in the world. In fact, the government announced last year that they intend to welcome 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021, 411,000 in 2022, and 421,000 in 2023. Canada has over 80 economic class of immigration p...

FIND OUT IF YOU QUALIFY. CLICK HERE TO SIGNUP   Dear Ms Powell, Is the Express Entry System the only way to get to live in Canada? That system seems to be very difficult, as I hear many people say they applied and did not get through. I have the money to be able to sponsor myself and my family. Is there a specific occupation and age limit that is being accepted? I want to know the best way to move to Canada. Please help. – GW Dear GW, The Express Entry System is not the only way to get to live permanently in Canada. There are over 80 economic programmes that can be utilised by individuals, based on their background and qualifications. However, the Express Entry System is the most utilised method by individuals who are interested in self-sponsorship. The Express Entry System is an electronic mechanism used to manage the existing economic programmes, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Programme, the Federal Skilled Trade Programme, The Canadian Experience Class, and some of the Provi...

Does Age Matter?

Dear Miss Powell, How does the Canadian government choose people to go to Canada? How can I get to Canada quickly? I hear age is a big factor, but I’m not sure why that would be important if I’m healthy and have the money to move. Can you shed some light on this issue for me? I’m the principal of a school and have the money to move with my family. Does my age really matter? What else should I look at? – N.T. Dear N.T., The fastest way to become a permanent resident of Canada is via the Express Entry System. In spite of the pandemic, the Canadian government has still been processing applications. The Express Entry System is utilised by the government to process economic applications for persons who qualify under the Federal Skilled Worker Programme, Federal Skilled Trade Programme, the Canadian Experience Class and some Provincial Nominee Programmes. This is a process whereby each applicant is evaluated based on a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) that awards points or scores to ...

Unemployed! Can I apply under Express Entry to go to Canada?

Dear Miss Powell, I was working for a company for almost four years, and then I got laid off. My half-sister is a citizen of Canada, and said that since I have an engineering degree, I should apply to go to Canada as a skilled worker. I think that would be good for me and my family, but I'm worried that because I'm unemployed, my application won't be accepted. My wife is an admin assistant, but she is on leave as we just had a baby. I also have an eight-year-old daughter who is not my wife's child. Should I wait until I find another engineering job? I have been looking for a while now, and can't find anything as an engineer. I help out a friend at his mechanic shop sometimes, but that is only part time. Can you tell me if we would qualify to be citizens? - J.L. Dear J.L., The Canadian immigration system is designed to attract qualified professionals from around the world who can make a positive contribution to the economy. In fact, one of the easiest ...
