Immigration Corner | Can I qualify if I work part-time?

BOOK A ZOOM CONSULTATION Dear Mrs Powell, I follow you on Facebook and I was hoping to see a post about my situation. Since I haven’t, I am writing to ask a few questions, and hope you will answer my question in  The Gleaner . I am a chartered accountant with three years experience. My husband is 35 years old and I’m 29. My husband and I are interested in living in Canada. He is an accountant as well. We are just wondering if we would qualify seeing that I don’t have a bachelor’s degree, like my husband. I am qualified through ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants). Does Canada recognise ACCA? Another issue is that I have two part-time jobs. Not a full-time job. Would that qualify me? I keep hearing that Canada has a backlog of applications. Is now a good time to apply? Please let us know if we have a chance of qualifying, as we would like to live in Canada and start a family there. CB Based on the information you provided, you could be a strong candidate unde...

Dear Miss Powell, M y father has been a construction worker in Toronto for years now, but he hasn’t returned home as he says that if he returns, he may not be able  to go back. He wants me to find out from you if there is a way for him to stay in Canada legally and get my mother and me to live with him there. He works late and is not so good with computers. Can you tell me what we can do? Please help us, Miss Powell. – E.R. Dear E.R., I would love to help your father and your family; however, I have many questions for your parents in order to ascertain how I may be of assistance. You indicated that he is afraid to return to his home country as he may not be able to return to Canada. Why is this so? Is he now out-of-status but still working in Toronto? Changes to the Express Entry System

Dear Ms Powell, I am bilingual and have been interested in applying to go to Canada via the Express Entry programme, but I’m worried that I won’t get enough points to qualify. I am a French teacher with a bachelor’s degree. What are my chances of getting through? Thank you in advance. – E.P. Dear E.P., The Canadian Express Entry System is one that manages applications for candidates who qualify under programmes such as the Federal Skilled Worker Programme, the Federal Skilled Trades Programme, Caribbean Experience Class, and some Provincial Nominee Programmes. The system is a points-based one as Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will rank applicants based on the comprehensive ranking system (CRS), which gives clients a score based on factors such as education, age, language skills, and family ties in Canada. Once you have provided a personal profile, you will be entered into a pool, where you are given a rank based on your background. IRCC conducts a draw almost every m...

I hope it will be one of the answers published. I am a nurse in Jamaica and I have been offered a job as a caregiver in Canada. I am interested, but I would need to know that I can become a citizen if I take that job. Would I be allowed to take my daughter? Can she attend high school? What are our options to become citizens? – M.K. Dear M.K., Thank you for contacting us.
