Click link to c omplete our free online form to FIND OUT IF YOU QUALIFY TO COME TO CANADA.   Dear Miss Powell, Thank you for your weekly articles. Is Canada still accepting applications from professionals like teachers to live in Canada? Are teachers in demand in Canada? I have a diploma from a teacher’s college and a degree from The University of the West Indies. I also have a five-year old son that I need to take with me. Please tell me if I can qualify and what I need to. Do I need to first get a job offer? – G.F. Immigration Corner | Deadline Looming And I Can’t Get Documents

Dear Miss Powell, I read your article recently about the coronavirus, but you didn’t say anything about persons who received an invitation to apply for permanent residence. I only have a few days in which to get my final documents, and I am worried that I will not make the deadline because I am told to stay home. Most places are closed, and I can’t get to pick up the documents. What can I do? Dear A.A., The government of Canada is aware of the effects of COVID-19 worldwide, and although they are continuing with the processing of various immigration applications, service disruptions and restrictions due to COVID-19 may affect the processing times. Special notices have been posted on the government’s website about how they will be handling cases during this time. NOTICES The Department of Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has indicated that “… no application in progress will be closed or refused due to a lack of documentation or inability to complete

Canadians should come home while you still can

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Canada will close borders to most non-citizens and non- permanent residents to  stop ill travellers from boarding inbound flights. Starting Wednesday, all international visitors to Canada will be turned around at the airport, with the exception of Americans, diplomats and flight crews. “We will be denying entry to Canada to people who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents,” said Trudeau, who added anyone coming back to the country needs to self isolate for 14 days. Canadian snowbirds are being advised to return home as the COVID-19 pandemic advances in the U.S. — and access to out-of-country medical insurance comes to an end for some travellers. In a  statement posted on the company's website  late Monday night, WestJet president and CEO Ed Sims said the airline would be suspending commercial international and transborder flights effective March 23.  As of Wednesday, the airline said it will also suspend t

Travelling To Canada And The Coronavirus

Dear Miss Powell, I just got my visa to live in Canada under the Express Entry Programme, but I’m scared to travel there because of the coronavirus. I honestly do not want to travel now. Can I get an extension to travel later in the year? I tried calling the high commission but I’m not getting through. Does Canada have a vaccine that they are giving people? I know they have a good health system, but I’m very concerned. Please help me as I don’t want to lose my visa, but I’m just worried about travelling as I don’t have any relatives in Canada. I’m worried that if I get sick, I will be on my own. Thanks in advance for your response. – DT Dear DT Congratulations on received confirmation of permanent residence from Canada! I understand your concerns and fears about travelling when there are so many uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19. It is therefore important to know the risks involved and be prepared. The situation is constantly changing, and so my advice is based on t

Immigration Corner | Why Is It So Hard To Get A Visa?

Dear Miss Powell, Why is it so hard to get a visitor’s visa to Canada and the USA? I’ve travelled to Barbados and Trinidad and I just want to see what it is like being in North America. How can I convince them that I don’t want to live in a cold country, but just want to vacation in the summer? LM Dear LM, It is not difficult to get a visitor’s visa if you are able to satisfy the requirements of the visa officer. The key to note is that when an individual applies for a visitor’s visa or temporary resident visa to another country, it is the responsibility of the applicant to pass the security, financial, social and other evaluations before they will be granted a visa to be admitted into the country. There are some key factors that an applicant should consider. They are: 1. Provide a properly completed application form with accurate information about yourself and your family. Ensure that you do not provide conflicting information or make mistakes, as there are strict
